Two-Part Webinar July 14
The American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) will present a 90-minute webinar “Building Your Inspection Team and the Challenges With Anti-Freeze Solutions” on July 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Central Daylight Time. This program is free for AFSA members and costs $140 for non-members. This webinar offers 0.15 CEUs and 1.5 CPDs. There is a processing fee of $15 to acquire the CEU/CPD credits. The webinar content is still free to AFSA members, but in order to receive a certificate, attendees must pay a fee of $15.
This webinar starts with a discussion regarding the challenges of building a team of qualified water-based fire protection inspectors. The competition for trained technicians to perform water-based fire system inspections and tests is growing tougher by the day. Many contractors have filled inspector positions from the installation ranks but any long-term strategy for success must include a program to recruit and train new inspectors from outside the industry. This webinar introduces proven methods for recruiting, vetting and training inspectors who have little or no previous fire protection system experience. This webinar is critical for any contractor who is trying to build a sustainable inspection and testing service offering.
The second half of this webinar examines the challenges facing contractors with customers that having existing antifreeze systems. It reviews the current requirements for these systems found in NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems, including determining the protection levels afforded by the current limits on solution concentrations and the option for risk assessments. A discussion of strategies for limiting the potential liabilities involved when inspecting, testing, and maintaining antifreeze systems
Upon completion of this webinar, attendees will be able to:
• Describe the challenges of converting installation technicians to inspection technicians.
• Describe and apply effective techniques for selecting and vetting training candidates for inspections and testing.
• Apply cost effective strategies for training technicians who have no previous fire protection knowledge or experience.
• Find and apply the requirements for inspecting, testing, and maintaining antifreeze systems using NFPA 25
• Implement strategies for limiting the liabilities resulting from servicing and maintaining antifreeze systems.
Presenting this webinar is Russ Leavitt, executive chairman of Telgian Corporation, an international fire protection and life safety services organization. He is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, holds a Level IV certification from NICET in Fire Sprinkler Layout, and is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist. He is a licensed contractor with 33 years of experience in the design, installation, and testing of fire protection systems. He currently is a member of the NFPA 25 Technical Committee. Leavitt is a long time instructor for AFSA and is a senior instructor for NFPA’s Professional Development Series. He has authored a number of articles and training materials including AFSA’s online hydraulics course series. He is a major contributor for the 2011 and 2014 NFPA 25 Handbook published by NFPA. Leavitt is a member of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).
